DESIGN LEARNING SOLUTIONS FOR A CHANGING SOCIETY AND INFRASTRUCTURE Please join our final inspirational Design Thinking StudioChat Guest Presenter, DAVID SHIPMAN! During this StudioChat, we will explore how our societal needs are influenced by the accelerated interconnectivity of ideas, products, and services. As consumers—we now expect rapid and increased support for our individual needs. Essential Question: How might we anticipate transformative changes as we prepare our next generation of creative problem-solvers so they may prosper and thrive? The world of interconnectivity and mega data has created a network of analytical Information that impacts every aspect of our life. Our purchasing habits, our political perspectives, and our earning potentials are constantly being measured and evaluated. We will dive into the following questions... How will these invasive practices impact the future of our art and design students? Are we at a point where mass customization and lifestyle experiences can align in positive ways? How is the current pandemic accelerating these environmental changes to how and where we work? David Shipman is an industrial designer, visionary, and design education advocate. Dave has dedicated much of his career to designing the future of workspaces. As a Design Principal of the Steelcase Design Group, he was one of the first to envision how connectivity would impact the future of working anywhere at any time. Teamed with the Stanford d.school, Shipman co-created the Hasso Plattner School of Design. Alongside IBM's design management, he transformed studio environments into maker spaces. At the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology, Dave collaborated with faculty to create high school student maker spaces. With over 30 patents for work-based products, he has directed the design of custom products for clients, including Apple, Microsoft, Nike, Goldman-Sachs, TED, Mercedes-Benz, and others. David holds a BFA in product and environmental design from the Kansas City Art Institute.
